No. The river is shallow in some parts but up to 10 feet deep in others we cannot allow non swimmers to compete.

2. Should I wear a life jacket?
Whilst this is a matter of personal choice, we strongly recommend that all competitors use bouyancy aids of some sort. In the children’s race the use of life jackets is mandatory.

3. Is there first aid provision during the events?
We have a long standing relationship with the Red Cross and their first aiders will be on duty throughout the weekend. So whether you are an escapologist with a dislocated shoulder or you have a splinter in your finger from your paddle - we can help.

4. Where can we get rid of our raft?
Your raft is your responsibility - the Deepings Raft Race committee accept no responsibility for the disposal of rafts used in the race. Abandoned rafts are a safety risk and environmental hazard. Teams will be charged for their removal and making the area safe. Take your raft home, improve it and use it again next year.

5. Have you got any tips for what to wear?
Beyond the prize for the best dressed raft and team there are no specific requirements on what to wear. However, you are required to wear suitable footwear (trainers, plimsoles etc..). The river bed is at best gravel and mud at worst. Also, there are many unseen hazards lurking below the surface including sharp objects which have been thrown in during the last few hundred years. Please remember that whatever you choose to wear you are responsible for your own wellbeing on the day.

6. Is the river dangerous?
Whilst the Welland is a relatively slow moving and tranquil river, all water sports hold some dangers. Whilst we do everything that we can to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone The Deepings Raft Race committee accept no responsibility for accidents, incidents or injuries caused directly or indirectly by participation in any Raft Race organised event.
