THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RAFT RACE DAY
Pre Raft Race Party
Saturday 6th August from 7:30pm
Once again the Waterton Arms are kindly allowing rafters to deliver their rafts on the Saturday to be stored in the pub gardens ready for action on the Sunday. They are also generously hosting an evening of music, food and merriment in the garden / marquee with live entertainment and their famous Outside Grill.
So, drop off your raft (ideally before the party starts and it gets too busy), bring family and friends and start the fun on the Saturday evening.
This year’s them is ‘The Raft Race Goes To The Movies’ so come dressed as your favourite Film Character. There is a trophy for the Best Dressed Raft and there will be prizes for the best dressed spectator.
On the Sunday morning (7th August) rafters will be parading their rafts from The Waterton along Bridge Street to the start area near the metal foot bridge. Prior to the rafts going down the river we are planning to interview the rafters over the loud speakers so that the spectators can get to know the teams and we can set off teams that want to compete against each other.
Rafts will be going into the river near the start line at the metal foot bridge which means spectators in this area will get to see all the fun of when the rafts first enter the water and if they actually flat!
Mini Raft Race
We are hoping to see more children bring along their own mini rafts and aim to set these off about 11am.
The first rafts down the river at 12 noon Hopefully this year we will see even more entries in this category. We have relaxed certain criteria to encourage more teams to enter. Under 18 year olds not just under 16s. Some adults can be on the raft for safety reasons. Terms and conditions apply.
To make it a little easier and to entertain the crowds along Bridge Street the rafters in the Youth Race will paddle up to High Locks and then race back down to the Stone Bridge by The Bell pub finishing at the metal Foot Bridge.
Deepings Raft Race Wristbands
To show your support for the Deepings Raft Race and help raise money for our nominated charities please ask for a wristband from one of our bucket collectors.
Suggested donation just £1 and we have Adult and Children sizes.
Trophy Presentation will be in front of Barclays in the centre of Market Deeping. Timing of the Raft Race presentation is 4pm. Trophies have been sponsored by Deepings Building & Plumbing Supplies.
Every rafter will be given their medal for entering by the team from Bannatynes Gym, one of our sponsors, who will be helping rafters safely cross the High Street by The Iron Horse.
School Banner Competition
Very soon you will start seeing hung around the Deepings colourful banners designed and painted by local school like Deeping St James Community Primary School, Market Deeping Community Primary School, Langtoft Primary School, Copthill Primary School and hopefully Baston C of E Primary School & Linchfield Primary School.
The Bell pub are sponsoring the Pub Race so if you fancy a pint along Bridge Street please pop into the The Bell and say hello to their staff.
We again have the BUS BAR on the High Street or you can watch the rafters come out of the river at the exit point with a pint at the Iron Horse. There is also a new convert Ford truck bar which can be found near High Locks where the rafters come out and then back into the river.
